14th NATO CA2X2 Forum

The NATO Modelling & Simulation Centre of Excellence organized the 14th edition of the NATO Computer Aided Analysis eXercise and eXperimentation Forum (CA2X2 Forum), which was hosted by the French CTO-IA at the Ecole Militaire in Paris, France, from 24 to 26 September 2019.

This year’s forum attracted its highest number of participants in many years, bringing together over 300 military, industry and academic experts in M&S and related fields from 26 NATO and partner countries.

This year’s keynotes were highlighted by an address from NATO Allied Command Transformation’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Joint Force Development, Vice Admiral Fernandez de Cordoba on how NATO uses modeling and simulation to support training, decision making and capability development.

Vice Admiral Fernandez de Cordoba emphasized that NATO needs “…to enhance the current spectrum of our approaches and tools for warfare development with modelling and simulation to ensure we provide adequate and timely capabilites to our warfighters.”

In that spirit, this year’s edition showcased a wide range of M&S aspects and featured workshops on the Simulation of Cyber Effects in exercises and an all-day look into the use of commercial technologies and games used in NATO and its Nations.

Additional sessions during the forum featured a range of topics, including: Air, Decision Support, Medical Simulation and Simulation Standards.

The 2019 CA2X2 Forum was a great success, providing an outstanding venue for attendees to share operational, technical and procedural items associated with training, simulation-based analyses, experiments and exercises within NATO and Nations.

During the closing ceremony it was announced that the 2020 edition of the NATO CA2X2 Forum will take place in Rome, Italy.
