HOW TO REACH THE M&S COE

The NATO M&S COE is located in the southern outskirts of Rome, inside the so called Città Militare Cecchignola (Cecchignola Military Compound) which lies alongside Via Laurentina, in the Italian Army Barracks “Adriano De Cicco” – the same building housing the Italian Defence General Staff C4I & Transformation Division (SMD VI Reparto) and the Italian Defence Innovation Office (Ufficio Generale Innovazione Difesa – UGID).

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

From Fiumicino Airport by “Leonardo Express Train”:

Take the direct connection from Fiumicino Airport to Termini Railway Station (Price €14 per person one way and departs every 30 minutes). From Termini Railway Station, take the Metro Line B (Blue) in the direction of “Laurentina” and get off at “Laurentina” Station.

From Fiumicino Airport by Metropolitan Line FR1:

From Fiumicino Airport take the FR1 in the direction “Fara Sabina/ Orte/Stazione Tiburtina, to Ostiense Station (Price: € 8 per person one way – time: about 30 minutes). From “Piramide” Station (connected to Ostiense) take Metro Line B (Blue), direction “Laurentina” and get off at “Laurentina” Station.

From Ciampino Airport by Public Transport:

FROM LAURENTINA METRO STATION (LINE B) TO NATO M&S COE  (About 25’)

From Laurentina Metro Station reach bus stop (Laurentina Africa) (see picture below) and take the Bus line nr.”763” direction “Castello Della Cecchignola” (Picture #2). Alight from the bus at stop Cecchignola Viale degli Arditi. Proceed to Città Militare Cecchignola Main Gate (on the left side).

Please take into due account that Città Militare Cecchignola, where the NATO M&S COE stand, is a military compound and access is handled by military personnel and regulations. Pedestrian (civilian or foreign military) have to leave their Passport/ID Card and to declare the reason of visit i.e. meeting/courses/workshop/temporary duty at “Caserma A. De Cicco”. A temporary pass will be released. Once cleared access, go straight for a further 300mt. and turn right to Piazza R. Villoresi 1, where the M&S COE is located.

OWN CAR

From Rome’s motorway (G.R.A., Eastbound  or Westbound):
take the Exit 25, “ROMA EUR/CITTA’ MILITARE CECCHIGNOLA”, towards downtown, and follow the road for about 1,5 km. Turn right into Via dell’Esercito, following the road sign “Città Militare Cecchignola”. After 400 m. you will be in front of the Città Militare Cecchignola main gate.

From Rome downtown:
take the Via Cristoforo Colombo, off the Rome downtown, and follow the road for about 6 km. After crossing the little Eur Lake, climb uphill and then turn left at the traffic light on Piazzale Pierluigi Nervi. Proceed for about 1.5km on the Viale dell’Umanesimo, and then turn right at the traffic light onto Via Laurentina. After about 700 m, turn left at the traffic light onto the Viale dell’Esercito, following the sign “Città Militare Cecchignola”. After 400 m, you will be in front of the Città Militare Cecchignola main gate.

Civilian vehicles can enter upon authorization of the Base Military Authorities. Pedestrian (civilian or foreign military) have to leave their Passport/ID Card and to declare the reason of visit i.e. meeting/courses/workshop/temporary duty at “Caserma A. De Cicco”. A temporary pass will be released.

Once cleared access, go straight for a further 300mt. and turn right to Piazza R. Villoresi 1, where the M&S COE is located.

Public Transportation in Rome

Rome has a good underground railway system that will take you close by to most tourist destinations. The Roman Metro has three lines – A, B and C. The combination of A and B lines is X-shaped; the two lines cross at the city’s central railway station, which is called ROMA TERMINI.   • ROMA 72H HOUR TICKET €18.00: Valid for 72 hours from first validation for unlimited journeys within the city of Rome.
  • BIT REGENERATION LIMITED EDITION €14,00 the 10 BIT pack.
  • ROMA MONTHLY PERSONAL PASS €35.00: Valid for unlimited journeys within the city of Rome during the charged calendar month.

TAXI

Taxis are available from the airport (around 48,00 €). Should you need a TAXI during your stay in Rome, try to book it at the hotel reception. Should you need to call it directly within Rome, dial +39.06.3570, +39.06.4994, +39.06.6645, or +39.06. 8822. Again, booking through the Hotel reception is normally safer and faster. In Rome taxis are white.
