16th NATO CAX Specialist Certification Course - 2nd Edition, 2023

From 11-15 December, the NATO Modelling & Simulation Centre of Excellence (M&S COE), in collaboration with NATO Joint Warfare Centre (JWC), the Italian Army Simulation and Validation Center (Ce.Si.Va.) and Italian company Fabaris, successfully hosted the second 2023 edition of the 16th NATO CAX Specialist Certification Course. The decision to conduct a second edition was driven by the increasing demand to train CAX operators, essential for elevating alliance operational readiness.

The course, attended by 12 participants, showcased remarkable effectiveness with a notable commitment from the students. Throughout the program, the course highlighted the significance of its relevance in NATO Exercises and the distinctive capabilities of Modelling and Simulation (M&S). In essence, CAX operators play a pivotal role in NATO exercises, executing Computer Assisted Exercises (CAX) within NATO Exercise Control (ExCon) structures. The advanced functionalities of M&S significantly enhance NATO exercises, offering realistic scenarios for comprehensive training.

Recognizing the critical role of CAX operators, the NATO M&S COE proactively responded to NATO’s requirements by introducing additional Simulator Courses in 2023. These courses are meticulously designed to meet NATO’s standards, ensuring participants acquire the necessary skills to utilize simulation functionalities in exercises, ultimately certifying them as NATO CAX operators. For more information, and to stay up to date, follow the NATO M&S COE Education and Training web page.

This strategic initiative aligns seamlessly with NATO’s commitment to leverage cutting-edge M&S advancements, fostering a dynamic and challenging training environment. It underscores NATO’s dedication to remaining at the forefront of military training methodologies.

Colonel Francesco Pacillo, Director of the M&S COE, expressed profound appreciation for the positive outcomes, emphasizing the course’s significance for NATO and its partners. He firmly believes that the training substantially contributes to the overall preparedness of the Alliance.
